Araku Valley

Araku Valley in Vishakapatnam is one of the most picturesque hill stations near Hyderabad that is popular for its rich biodiversity. This absolutely pleasurable getaway begins with an interesting and pictorial drive through dense forests, coffee plantations and more. Araku Valley is also home to several indigenous tribes.

Coffee was first introduced in Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh in 1898 by British at Pamuleru valley in East Godavari district.

Subsequently, it spread over to Araku Valley from the early 19th century. After independence, the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department produced coffee plantations in the valley and in 1956, Coffee Board appointed Andhra Pradesh Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (GCC) GCC for boosting coffee plantations in the valley and GCC promotes java farm by local tribal farmers. In 1985, the plantations were handed to A.P. Forest Development Corporation and GCC encouraged Girijan Coop. Plantation Development Corporation (GCPDC) only to create coffee plantations in tribal regions. Of the plantations created by GCC and GCPDC were passed over to the Japanese farmers in 2 acres per family.

The Araku Valley's views are appreciated with trails passing through endless stretches of coffee plantations. Borra Caves are a fascinating collection of pre-historic caves. Other places to see include Bheemunipatnam Beach, Rama Krishna Beach along with Lawson's Bay and Rishikonda Beach that are a Few of the finest beaches on the East Coast of India.
